James Kirkland Returns to Boxing.Again

secondsout asked:

Smitty sat down for a conversation with undefeated Middleweight James Kirkland as he prepares for his April 9 bout against Nobuhiro Ishida at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and available on HBO PPV as part of the undercard of Erik Morales vs. Marcos Maidana. Kirkland speaks candidly about his recent incarceration that put his career on hold, again, for two years. However, through this difficult experience, he feels he has learned much and matured greatly. Now, with new trainer Kenny Adams in his corner, Kirkland is ready to continue his quest for greatness in the ring, a Championship and a better life for his family.

  1. Too bad James got KO'ed in the first round. His fight was near-unbearable to watch as Ishida, being a far less muscular/built boxer, takes out James with a few well-placed shots.

Physical strength/appearance isn't everything in boxing. Mental strength and courage is also required, else you won't last past the first round.

  2. @MulletKid You hear this so much: fights getting stopped to early. The moment Kirkland is hurt a third time with a straight right is were Cortez would have stopped the fight if the fight records of each boxer had have been the other way around. The referee is not there to judge. He is there to ensure no foul play goes on and the health of the boxers is fine. How many KD's is he supposed to see before he stops the fight? If this had have been WBO rules it would be ko regardless of ref's ruling.

  3. ufc fighter died yesterday in fight
    /watch?v=uFn5McYWJao
    terrible x(

  4. @MulletKid: One day I will explain what do I mean about mental toughness, he was going to get dropped every time the Japanese fighter touch him. There was no point in continuing with this fight. Kirkland another never been fighter now his future is to be a journeyman and eventually a broke punch drunk. How sad. Peace (TG1).

  5. @UncleChuckNitty

mental toughness has nothing to do with getting knocked down - you get hit in the right place, you go down, no matter how tough you are. He got up every time and was ready to go - Cortez called it off too early.

  6. Boxing has a new bum his name James Kirkland. Losing to feather fist fighter in one round is just offensive. So long kirkland had the potential but never the mental toughness. Peace (TG1).

  7. Morales vs Maidana is gonna be so awesome! Morales always goes to war!!!
